US Confirms Airstrikes in Southern Iran Despite Ceasefire

The United States Central Command has confirmed carrying out airstrikes in southern Iran despite the ongoing ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.

According to CENTCOM spokesperson Tim Hawkins, the strikes were conducted to protect American troops from possible threats in the region.

The US military said the targeted locations were suspected of hosting Iranian mine-laying boats and missile launch sites near strategic coastal areas.

CENTCOM stated that the operations were defensive in nature and aimed at ensuring the safety of US personnel during the ceasefire period.

Reports from international media said explosions were heard near Bandar Abbas and coastal regions close to the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian authorities have not yet released details about major damage or casualties following the reported airstrikes.

The ceasefire between the United States and Iran has remained in place since April 7. Although small-scale incidents were reported in recent weeks, neither side had officially declared a major violation until now.

Meanwhile, diplomatic discussions between Tehran and Washington are also continuing regarding a possible memorandum of understanding, but no final agreement has been signed so far.

Regional analysts believe the latest military action could increase tensions in the Middle East and may affect ongoing negotiations between both countries.
