Sindh Govt Announces 500 More EV Buses – Latest Routes, Features, Benefits & Launch Updates
The Sindh Government has announced another major boost to its public transportation system by introducing 500 additional electric (EV) buses across the province. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed the plan during his address in the Sindh Assembly, stating that the new fleet will be added within the next two to three months to improve affordable and environmentally friendly public transport.
According to the minister, the People’s Bus Service has received an overwhelmingly positive response and is currently providing transportation facilities to approximately 125,000 passengers every day. He said the provincial government continues to subsidize fares to ensure that modern public transport remains affordable for citizens from all walks of life.
Sharjeel Memon stated that the addition of 500 new electric buses will significantly expand the existing public transport network. The government aims to improve connectivity between major cities while reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution through the use of clean-energy vehicles.
He highlighted that Sindh became the first province in Pakistan to launch both electric buses and the Pink Bus Service exclusively for women. These initiatives, he said, have transformed public transport by making travel safer, more comfortable, and more accessible, especially for women, students, senior citizens, and daily commuters.
Speaking about women’s empowerment, the minister discussed the progress of the Pink Scooty Scheme. He noted that when the project was launched, only around 150 women possessed driving licenses. Today, more than 25,000 women have obtained licenses, demonstrating the scheme’s positive impact. He added that the government plans to distribute additional scooters once the number of licensed women reaches 100,000.
Sharjeel Memon emphasized that the Pink Scooty Scheme will remain reserved for eligible women and that authorities will continue monitoring the proper utilization of the vehicles to ensure transparency and fairness.
While discussing Sindh’s financial performance, the senior minister said the province successfully achieved its annual tax collection target of approximately Rs. 356 billion. He credited Karachi’s strong industrial and commercial sector, noting that many leading national and multinational companies have their headquarters in the city and continue contributing significantly to provincial revenue.
The minister also highlighted Sindh’s ongoing infrastructure development projects. According to him, the provincial government has completed the construction and rehabilitation of 3,114 kilometers of roads, while additional road development schemes are currently underway in urban and rural districts to improve connectivity and economic activity.
On the education front, Sharjeel Memon praised the transparent recruitment of approximately 97,000 teachers, stating that the hiring process was completed successfully without major complaints. He also acknowledged the efforts of Sindh Police in maintaining peace and improving the overall law and order situation throughout the province.
Discussing the energy sector, the minister stated that Thar Coal is currently generating around 3,960 megawatts of electricity, which is being supplied to the national grid. He described the project as an important contributor to Pakistan’s energy security and long-term economic development.
Sharjeel Memon further highlighted the success of the Sindh People’s Housing Scheme, saying that the initiative has helped provide homes to millions of flood-affected families across the province. He described the project as one of the largest post-flood housing and rehabilitation programs undertaken in Pakistan.
Concluding his speech, the minister urged all political stakeholders to work together for Sindh’s continued progress. He stressed the importance of improving Karachi’s international image, attracting domestic and foreign investment, expanding public transport, strengthening infrastructure, improving healthcare and education, and promoting clean energy projects for sustainable development.
With the planned induction of 500 more electric buses, the Sindh Government aims to further modernize the province’s transportation system while offering citizens cleaner, safer, and more reliable travel options in the coming months.
