Government Announces Major Reduction in Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan

The federal government has announced a major reduction in petrol and diesel prices, providing significant relief to the public ahead of Eid celebrations in Pakistan.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs22 per litre, while diesel prices have also been cut by Rs22 per litre.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government had promised to provide relief to the people whenever financial space became available, and the promise has now been fulfilled.

He stated that public relief remains one of the government’s top priorities. The Prime Minister also mentioned that fuel prices were reduced last week as part of continuous relief measures.

According to the Petroleum Division notification, the new petrol price after the reduction is Rs381.78 per litre, while diesel will now cost Rs380.78 per litre across Pakistan.

The government said it continued providing subsidies and fuel relief even during difficult economic conditions. Officials highlighted support for public transport, goods transport, motorcycles, and rickshaw users.

The statement further claimed that Pakistan maintained stable fuel availability during the global oil crisis due to timely government decisions, while many countries faced long fuel queues.

Officials also stated that in previous months, the government absorbed major increases in global oil prices by providing subsidies exceeding Rs130 per litre to protect consumers from sudden price hikes.

Last week, petrol and diesel prices were already reduced by Rs6 per litre. Earlier on May 15, the government had also announced a Rs5 per litre reduction in petroleum product prices.
