The agreement was signed electronically during a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles in France. US President Donald Trump formally endorsed the deal, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the agreement from Iran.

According to officials, the signing marks the beginning of a 60-day negotiation period during which both sides will work toward a permanent and comprehensive peace settlement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that the Islamabad MoU has come into effect immediately. He stated that Pakistan played a key role in mediating talks between Washington and Tehran from the beginning of the peace process.

Under the first phase of the agreement, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. In return, the United States will lift its naval blockade, helping restore trade and energy exports.

The memorandum also creates a framework for future diplomatic discussions focused on regional stability, economic cooperation, and long-term peace between the two countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Donald Trump and President Masoud Pezeshkian for choosing diplomacy over conflict. He also praised the efforts of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt for supporting the negotiations.

The Prime Minister further acknowledged the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in helping facilitate discussions and encouraging peaceful dialogue between all parties involved.

Political analysts are calling the agreement one of the most significant diplomatic developments of the decade. Many believe the Islamabad MoU could reshape relations in the Middle East and reduce tensions that have affected global energy markets for years.

With the agreement now in force, attention will turn to the next 60 days as negotiators attempt to secure a permanent peace deal and build a new chapter in US-Iran relations.
